In response to the emergency caused by tropical storms Iota and Eta, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), with the support of the Secretariat of Social Works of the President’s Wife (SOSEP), covered 156 collective sites in the departments of Alta Verapaz, Izabal, Chiquimula and Zacapa.

In total, more than 20 enumerators, supervisors, drivers and officers were deployed in the field from November 13 to 26, 2020 to cover the temporary collective sites on the SOSEP list.

A local modification of the IOM’s multi-sectoral Displacement Monitoring Matrix (DTM) site assessment tool was used. This tool involves information from interviews with the managers of each collective site, as well as face-to-face observation of the facilities to identify priority needs in accordance with the minimum standards established in the Sphere Handbook humanitarian standards.
