The context of the COVID-19 pandemic represents for many nations a scenario of challenges related to care, preparedness and prevention in the face of the economic and social consequences for the population, but especially for the migrant sector in those countries of origin and host countries. As part of the inter-agency response of the United Nations Country Team and in coordination with the Guatemalan Migration Institute (IGM), the IOM, with the support of various projects and donors, has delivered to each returnee who complies with the period established by the authorities, a family pantry that includes various items, however, the development of programs to support the restitution of their livelihoods is needed to achieve a reintegration that ensures human development. In light of this, IOM presents the preliminary report of the Livelihood Survey to the government of Guatemala and its counterparts with the objective of generating information for the development of support programs for the reintegration of migrants and their families.
Approximately 35 IOM personnel were placed in the various temporary shelters managed by the IGM and the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS) to carry out this work from August 12 to September 8, 2020. During this period, the institutions followed strict biosafety protocols to safeguard the health of all stakeholders involved.
